Manufacturing Test

Boundary scan, by way of ScanWorks®, has become an important weapon in many companies' manufacturing test arsenals. One of the world's largest electronics manufacturer, Jabil, for example, generated big cost savings by combining ScanWorks' JTAG tests on its 3070 ICT systems. A small segment of Jabil's overall cost savings comes from reducing ICT test development costs by 25 percent. Another big manufacturer, Raytheon/ODS, has had a similar experience with ScanWorks for the 3070. But JTAG test and ScanWorks in manufacturing aren't limited to running on ICT platforms. Another defense manufacturer experienced significant cost savings by running ScanWorks JTAG tests with a flying probe tester.

Similarly, smaller manufacturers have reduced the cost of manufacturing test by integrating ScanWorks into their processes. Qlogic, for one, came to the conclusion that it couldn't test its circuit boards without ScanWorks. Digidesign found visual inspection and ICT lacking. One nettlesome problem was diagnosed by ScanWorks as a faulty pin on a DSP chip. And Netrix has bought into boundary scan to such a degree that it has now become an integral part of its overall manufacturing test strategy.
