The faster OEMs and manufacturers can implement ScanWorks and its JTAG capabilities, the sooner they can benefit from boundary scan tests. As a result, some firms have turned to ASSET’s programming services organization, EDFT, to help them get up and running quickly. Digidesign, for instance, needed JTAG tests immediately. ASSET generated an initial set of tests for a particularly dense board and a pin-level problem was identified within minutes of apply the tests. ADC has established a routine of sending a new design’s netlists, schematics and BSDL files to ASSET. In return, ADC receives a JTAG test set that has increased boundary scan test coverage well beyond the 45-50 percent provided by the on-board JTAG devices. And SMT, a contract manufacturer, has little interest in developing JTAG expertise on-staff. Instead, it relies on ASSET whenever new JTAG tests are needed.
